Overview

This educational activity aims to enhance the knowledge of oncologists in the management of advanced breast cancer and how to implement the emerging therapies and cutting edge techniques into day-to-day practice. This activity will present the latest research updates and treatment trends/guidelines for triple-negative breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer, locally advanced breast cancer and metastatic breast cancer. Experts from both inside and outside of MD Anderson will address the importance of applying a multidisciplinary team approach to develop methods for identification of specific genomic and proteomic signatures of breast cancer. Clinical scenarios will be discussed to provide examples of a high level of patient-focused, multidisciplinary care a breast cancer patient should receive. Experts will also present on current clinical trials that offer novel therapies to treat advanced, rare and aggressive breast cancers. The goal is for physicians to develop the tools to diagnose, identify therapeutic approaches specifically for treatment of breast cancer, enhance approaches to assist in detecting the disease evaluate the effectiveness of treatment for advanced breast cancer patients, and appropriately refer patients to clinical trials if needed after the understanding of available therapy.
