This has been on my mind lately, especially as we continue to struggle to get enough submissions for Walking on Quicksand. The stories we do receive are powerful and deeply moving—but we know there are so many more out there, and we want to hear from you.
During a recent Talk IBC podcast interview, Dr. Ueno asked me a question that really stuck:
“Are you training them? Are you helping them learn how to tell their story?”
It stopped me in my tracks. I hadn’t thought of it that way before.
Maybe we need to do more. Maybe you’d like a writing prompt to help you get started. Maybe you’re not sure how to frame your experience or just want someone to look over what you’ve written and help polish it up. We’re here for that. Truly.
Your story matters. It doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be real. The truth is, every time we share one of your stories, we hear back from someone who says, “That helped me. I saw myself in that.”
So let me ask again: Are we doing enough to help you tell your story?
Because in the IBC world, you are somebody. And your voice matters.
Let me hear from you.
Hope always,
Terry Lynn Arnold
